GW Increases Work-Study Allocations

GW will increase the amount of money allocated to the Federal Work Study Financial Aid program by one-million-dollars, expanding the number of community service related jobs available for students by 60 percent, according to the university.
“Our students are powerfully drawn to public service, and these new funds will help them engage in it while also supporting themselves,” GW President Steven Knapp said in a statement released to the press.
According to the GW Career Center, students typically work eight to ten hours a week, with earnings going directly into personal accounts. Examples of service-related jobs include DC Reads, Heads Up, and Jump Start.
The university claims the new funding will allow more than 300 additional students to work a part-time, service-related job. That’s in addition to the 555 students the university reports already hold service-related positions.
